Epidemiological investigations were performed upon the El Tor Cholera epidemics, in Chonnam area, 1969.
The results are summarized as follows:
1. Incubation periods were several hours in shortest to 11 days in longest. Most frequent incubation period was 2 to 3 days. Attack rate was about 10% in the cases of food poisoning like explosive outbreaks and the case fatality was 9.9% in general.
2. Cases mainly occurred in group of aged over 30 years, male than female (sex ratio 2 to 1), and in less educated lower living class.
3. Modes of transmission seemed to be two types. One was food poisoning like explosive type and the other was propagative prosodemic type. Sea fish and shell fish, and pork which supposed to be contaminated during serving, were the main vehicle in those outbreaks.
4. The occurrence of secondary infection within a family was recognized by observing several cases occurred in those outbreaks.
5. Carrier rate was 2.2% in fisherman and crew.
6. No differences, in personal and environmental factors between the groups of bacteriologically positivs and negative, were observed.
